Need help with addiction----1st one
Just bought a 629-5 S&W Mountain Gun.http://sp1.yt-thm-a03.yimg.com/image/25/m3/2688735300
I need some load advise. This thing is light for the heavy Magnums and I want to load up some nice light shooting accurate loads in Magnum size cases. Any advise on loads? I'm taking it out tomorrow after work and make some noise! Pre Lock Smith so I'm gonna keep it a long time. E-A |

Nice gun! I have a 686-6-shot. It's over 20 years old, scary accurate with 6 inch barrel. Never could figure why they came out with the 7 shot 686, maybe for competitive shooting or something. Every gun I buy now is stainless if possible. Nothing like bringing a new gun home! Have fun with it. I'm sure some of the other guys knowledgeable with .44 mags will give you the info you're looking for.

Cowboy Action loads in 44 spl. will be much more comfortable to shoot and help you enjoy your pistol more. If you handload, start with 10.0 gr Unique/200 JHP or 8.5 gr Unique/240 JHP for an intermediate load. |
Re: Need help with addiction----1st one
Do you handload? If so, try any combinination 240 gr jacketed with alliant 2400 and a LP CCI primer. Avoid H110 if you want a light load. That powder's catch phrase is "not for wimps" and is somewhat punishing in the mountain gun.

I shot up 50 winchester rounds in 44 Special thurs-fri then went and got some Dies and powder and lead and rolled some.
It was pretty --6 in the red bulls eye from 7 yards with 240Grain and 11.4 Grains of 2400. I let my friend shoot four and the ingrate shot 4 that touched each other making me look like a Piker. Oh Well. Hand loading this baby give me very very manageable recoil and pretty good accuracy. I am such a goof all I can think of now is an Anaconda. Great fun I recommend getting into reloading if you have the time and don't mind the slowness starting out. My first box cost $35.95 for 50 or about .70 cents per.I reloaded for about $.18 each or $9 dollars for 50. E-A |

I use a load of 6.5 grains Red Dot behind a 200 gr. wadcutter in my Ruger Blackhawk. Plenty accurate and conserves powder.
